GATESOL Public Service Award

Who’s Eligible: Any individual whose work has contributed significantly to international understanding, cooperation, friendship, and development in Georgia.  This person does not have to be a member of Georgia TESOL.

Purpose: To honor a person whose service to the public and actions go beyond the responsibilities of one’s profession and that have helped improve the welfare of humankind, including significant contributions benefiting one’s community, state, and/or nation.

Award: A plaque and recognition at the Georgia TESOL Annual Conference.

Criteria: Nominations are examined for evidence of:

(a) clear and exemplary contribution to the local 

community, region, and/or state that goes above and beyond normal job-related activities
(b) impact of service on the local community, region, and/or state, and (c) strong commitment to international understanding and cooperation.

Nominations:  Nominations can be made by  any current Georgia TESOL member in good standing.

To Nominate: Nominations must be sent to the Grants and Awards Co-Chairperson, Jacqueline Ellis, at jellis@doe.k12.ga.us. Please provide a brief description of the nominee and why he/she should receive this award.

 

Due Date: Nomination must be submitted on or before May 31th.

 

The Review Committee will consist of members of the GATESOL executive board.

 

Additional Comments:

1. The award will be offered on a yearly basis.

2. The Executive Board reserves the right to award more than one recipient or may decide that no award(s) will be provided for a given year.

3. The recipient(s) will be notified in June and will be invited to attend the awards recognition ceremony at the the Georgia TESOL Annual Conference in October.
