On April 27, 2021, GATESOL joined with LCF Georgia, GALAS, and GALEO to publish a call for action from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. We ask that GaPSC acknowledge that all K-12 teacher preparation programs should require ESOL courses, including cultural and linguistic knowledge and methods that reflect current research and best practices in teaching multilingual learners.

On March 27, 2021, standing in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, GATESOL made a statement urging Georgia’s K-12, higher education, and adult learning campuses to act to provide safe and supportive environments for AAPI staff and students.

On March 25, 2021, GATESOL joined with GALEO, GALAS, and CLF Georgia to call for Georgia colleges and universities to include critical TESOL instruction in all teacher preparation degree programs.

On December 22, 2020, GATESOL reached out to Superintendent Richard Woods and the Georgia Board of Education with concerns for teacher and student safety during ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 administration in this critical point in the pandemic.
